The San Bernardino Police Mounted Unit presented me with a plaque commemorating the founding and development of the unit. I am proud of them for what they have accomplished and am honored by their plaque to me. They have really gone beyond what I had hoped in my most ambitious dreams for them. The plaque reads, " Lieutenant Dale Blackwell, Founder, San Bernardino Police Mounted Enforcement Unit. For your steadfast devotion, dedication, and commitment to the men and women of the San Bernardino Police Mounted Unit. Thank you for your service." Then a John Wayne quote, "Courage is being afraid... and saddling up anyway".

The plaque has real sabers, my spurs and the badge worn by my horse, "Pawn", on his breast strap.
